Adrian Chiles looks back at today's Premiership encounters in which West Bromwich Albion took on Midlands rivals Aston Villa and Arsenal took on Middlesbrough - a home-coming of sorts for Ray Parlour, who left the champions in the close season.

Premiership highlights from the Reebok Stadium as Bolton Wanderers entertained Liverpool. There is renewed optimism in the red half of Merseyside after the arrival of new Spanish manager Rafael Benitez. Sam Allardyce's Bolton, however, defied the odds last season with their best ever finish in the top flight. Plus a round-up of yesterday's action, including Blackburn v Manchester United, Aston Villa v Newcastle, Chelsea v Southampton, and Norwich v Arsenal.

New Spurs boss Jacques Santini was keen to beat a Canaries side set on survival - so did Tottenham triumph over newly promoted Norwich? There's also the best of Arsenal's trip to Fulham and away fixtures for Chelsea and Manchester United.

A triple bill of Premiership action, featuring the London derby at Stamford Bridge between title-chasing Chelsea and Tottenham, who have not beaten their rivals in the league since 1990. Elsewhere, incoming Magpies boss Graeme Souness faces an early test as Newcastle travel to Southampton, while the Rooney-shaped hole in Everton's front line could be an issue for the Toffees as they face Middlesbrough at Goodison Park.

Portsmouth's clash with Everton at Fratton Park is among today's highlights. David Moyes' Everton side made a strong start to the season, but will Portsmouth's Nigerian international striker Yakubu have put paid to that? There's also action from yesterday's eight Premiership matches.
